Introduction

Hello all, and welcome to my new blog, WBHockeyTalk.  This is where I, William, am going to spill my thoughts from the world of hockey into the web.  I already flood my Facebook and Twitter accounts of thoughts and (sometimes trivial) bits of information, but now I am starting this blog to be able to contain all of my thoughts, rants, and insights; in more than 140 characters.

The goal of mine is to have a new post daily.  I might have posts about events, games, trades, signings, issues, predictions, or even things like stories, bits about my growing hockey card collection, or maybe showcasing some of my jersey designs.

So more about me, and the blog:

Will this blog be a daily thing? I hope so, but it might not happen.  I do have a life outside of the internet surprisingly.

Why am I doing this blog?  Because I don't want to fill my Twitter and Facebook with all hockey related things (although it will still be there, just less, maybe).  I've always wanted to start a blog, but never had the time or decisiveness to pick a subject.  But hockey seems like a natural fit for me to write about, so here we are.

What is my hockey background? I played up to Midget AA* (not full time mind you, usually stuck with house teams), and admittedly I was never too great.  I was a bit of a late bloomer, and once I started improving, I had horrible luck with injuries, mostly concussions. There were certain playing decisions I made that I know I could have changed to be a better player, but I still don't regret my playing career.  Playing minor hockey was the time of my life, and I can't thank my coaches, teammates, and parents enough for supporting me and sharing the memories with through the years.

Why listen to my opinion?  Well, you wont see my stat-sheet on Wikipedia, or see my highlight reels on NHL.com, or see my insights on a TV panel anytime soon.  I'm just an average fan.  I grew up a student in the game of hockey.  But I feel that my opinion matters, as every hockey fans' does.  The fans are what make the game what it is, they play the game, pay for the tickets, and stir up the hype for any going-ons of the game.  Thats what makes hockey special, and I'm just exercising my right to express my opinions of it.

Is there going to be more than just a blog?  I'd love to turn this little project of mine into more than just a daily* blog.  Being a Multimedia Production student, its in my best interest to make things that would enhance my portfolio of work.  Certainly, this blog helps, but more can be done.  Thinking big, I'd love to turn this into a Podcast, or make videos for this, or make a separate Twitter account to give quick insights, or include guest speakers for the blog.  The possibilities are really endless.  But it all comes down to one thing, the readers.  If enough people care about my opinions, or have feedback of their own, or want me to tackle other topics in hockey, then I'll do more with this blog.  I'm doing this blog for the fun of it, but also to express my interest and provoke thought of others too.  If the demand for more insight and media is there, then I'd love for this project to grow.  Otherwise, I'm fine with the simple blog post and interacting through comments.

Which speaking of, I'd love to hear your comments.  Whether you're an expert*, a fan, a player, someone new to the sport, or anyone else, I'd love to hear your feedback.  Your feedback will be the inspiration for me to keep this blog rolling.  And again, fans are what make hockey such an amazing game, so talking about it will be beneficial to the love of the game, even if its just casual dialogue.

So thats all I have to say for now, I hope you read this and if you did, hope you come back tomorrow for my next post.  If you have suggestions for me or comments, please feel free to do so.

And by the way, a hint for my next topic:  Who's Swedish, 40 years old, and probably the most disliked player in the new "Northeastern" division?
